Visa applications are usually submitted and collected at a consulate, embassy, or other diplomatic mission.
They are also known as visas on arrival (VOA) and are issued at the port of entry. This differs from visa-free entry, in which no visa is necessary, since the traveller must also obtain a visa before going to immigration control.
An electronic visa (e-Visa or eVisa) is stored in a database and connected to the passport number, so there is no need to place a mark, sticker, or stamp in the passport prior to travel. The application is sent online, and the receipt serves as a visa that can be printed or saved to a mobile device.
