The Atlantic Immigration Pilot is a programme that allows qualified foreign employees and international graduates to work and live in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. The Atlantic Immigration pilot programme was started in 2017 as part of a collaborative effort to attract skilled workers to the Atlantic provinces of Canada.
Employers in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces can participate in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, a fast-track immigration initiative.

How does the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program works

This is an employer-driven initiative aimed at assisting firms in Atlantic Canada in finding competent individuals for positions that they have been unable to fill locally. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is the quickest route to obtain a permanent resident visa in Canada.

Once a designated employer has found a candidate who satisfies their employment needs as well as the program’s requirements, they must first offer them a job. Employers are not required to complete a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) as part of this programme.

The employer will link the candidate with a designated settlement service provider organisation for a needs assessment and to build a settlement plan once the candidate has accepted the position. Employers will also support the new immigrant’s and his or her family’s long-term integration so that they can achieve the goals of their settlement plan once they arrive in Canada.

Employers who need to fill a position fast will be able to obtain a temporary work permit, allowing the candidate and his or her family to arrive in Canada as soon as feasible. Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to receive this work permit:

• A genuine job offer
• A letter from the government of the province; and
• A promise to seek for permanent residency within 90 days of receiving a temporary work permit

Requirements for the Pilot

Employers can hire you through one of three initiatives in the pilot. Although you may be eligible for more than one programme, you may only apply for one.
You must demonstrate proof that you meet the language, education, and work experience requirements for all three programmes, as well as that you have enough money to sustain yourself and your family in Canada.

Atlantic Graduate Program for International Students

Generally speaking, you must:

Have a degree, diploma, or other certificate from an Atlantic province’s publicly supported institution
Have spent at least 16 months in an Atlantic province in the two years prior to receiving your degree, diploma, or certificate
Take a language exam to demonstrate your ability to converse in English or French.

International graduates hired through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot are not required to have prior work experience.

High-Skilled Program in the Atlantic

Generally speaking, you must:

For at least a year, you must have worked in a management, professional, or technical/skilled position.
Having a high school diploma or similar education in Canada
Take a language exam to demonstrate your ability to converse in English or French.
Demonstrate that you can support yourself and your family in Canada.

Certain standards must also be met by the employer.

Intermediate-Skilled Program in the Atlantic

Generally speaking, you must:

For at least a year, you must have worked in a job that requires a high school diploma and/or job-specific training.
Having a high school diploma or similar education in Canada
Take a language exam to demonstrate your ability to converse in English or French.
Demonstrate that you can support yourself and your family in Canada.

Certain standards must also be met by the employer.

An applicant must have a 12-month job offer from a Designated Employer for a position in National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, or B to qualify for this stream. Applicants in this stream must meet the following conditions in addition to a job offer:

Professional Work Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time, skilled job experience is required (or the equivalent amount in part-time).
Education: A high school diploma from Canada or its international equivalent.
Language Abilities: A minimum of level 4 on a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) examination in either English or French.
Evidence for Proof of Funds: Demonstrate that you have enough money to support yourself and your family once you’ve settled in Canada.

An applicant must have a job offer from a Designated Employer for a permanent position in National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, B, or C to be eligible for this stream. Applicants in this stream must meet the following conditions in addition to a job offer:

Professional Work Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time, skilled job experience is required (or the equivalent amount in part-time).
Education: A high school diploma from Canada or its international equivalent.
